Dear friends! Can you imagine that the year 2010 is almost gone. Where did it go? Well, I’m ready to welcome the year 2011 because I’m quite sure it will be a great year.
Liebe Freunde! Könnt Ihr Euch vorstellen, dass das Jahr 2010 fast vorbei ist? Wo ist es nur hin? Nun, ich bin bereit, das Jahr 2011 zu begrüßen, weil ich mir ziemlich sicher bin, dass es ein super Jahr wird.
My new year’s speech is already a tradition here in Knuti’s Weekly so of course, I will make a speech even this year!
Meine Neujahrsansprache ist in Knuti’s Weekly ja schon zur Tradition geworden, also werd ich auch heuer wieder eine halten.
This time I’m not looking back but forward since I already made a resumé of the year 2010 in the previous lead article. As you know it isn’t so easy to know what will happen in the future but I ordered a crystle ball from Mr Merlin’s internet shop so what could possibly go wrong?
Diesmal schaue ich nicht zurück, da ich meinen Jahresrückblick 2010 ja schon im letzten Leitartikel gemacht habe. Wie Ihr wisst, ist es nicht so leicht zu wissen, was in Zukunft passieren wird, aber ich habe mir in Mr. Merlin’s Internetshop eine Kristallkugel bestellt und was sollte jetzt noch schiefgehen?
Now let’s see what the crystle ball has to tell us. I see it’s going to be a very good bear year. Many bears – and also other animals – will have new wonderful enclosures. The visitors are behaving extra ordinary well while visiting us. There will be more yammy food than ever before!!! Did you hear that??? A very good year indeed is waiting for us!
Nun denn, schaun mir mal, was uns die Kristallkugel zu erzählen hat. Aha, es wird also ein sehr gutes Jahr für Bären. Viele Bären – und auch andere Tiere – werden neue, wunderbare Gehege bekommen. Die Besucher werden sich super, super gut verhalten, wenn sie uns besuchen. Es wird noch mehr leckeres Essen geben als je zuvor!!!!! Habt Ihr das gehört????? Ein wirklich seeeehr gutes Jahr wartet auf uns!
I can even hear the sound of little cub paws … doesn’t that sound great! I will also wish all the new born cubs best of luck and I’m very curious to see them in the Spring when they will come out of their dens.
Ich kann auch den Klang kleiner Bärenkinderpfoten hören …… klingt das nicht grossartig? Ich wünsche den neuen Bärenkindern alles, alles Gute und ich bin sehr neugierig, sie im Frühling kennenzulernen, wenn sie aus ihren Höhlen kommen.
I know that many of my fans are having problems with their health but my crystle ball tells me they will all recover soon! Dear friends, have patience, have faith!
Ich weiss, dass viele meiner Fans grosse gesundheitliche Probleme haben, aber meine Kristallkugel sagt mir, dass sie alle bald wieder ganz gesund sein werden! Liebe Freude, habt Geduld, habt Vertrauen!
There’s one thing both you and I would like to know. Will I have a beautiful polar bear girl friend next year? Oh no, my crystle ball went all dizzy …. I can’t see anything…. Well, as good old Doris Day sang : Que sera, sera!
Es gibt natürlich noch etwas, was ich unbedingt wissen möchte. Werde ich im neuen Jahr eine hübsche Eisbärfreundin finden? O nein, meine Kristallkugel wird plötzlich ganz schwummrig…Ich kann überhaupt nichts sehen…. Nun denn, dann halt ist’s halt so, wie die gute alte Doris Day immer sang: Que sera, sera!
I’m not making any promises for the new year because I simply don’t know what I should promise. I mean – a perfect bear doesn’t have to change anything so maybe my promise is that I will simply remain your cute Knut. OK?
Ich mach auch keine Vorsätze für das neue Jahr, weil ich schlicht und ergreifend nicht weiß, was ich mir vornehmen sollte. Ich mein halt, ein perfekter Bär muss doch nichts ändern, also besteht mein Versprechen darin, dass ich einfach Euer süsser Knut bleibe. Einverstanden?
… and now it’s party time! I have invited all my friends to a great Sylvester party and what a party it’s going to be!
….und jetzt wollen wir feiern! Ich habe alle meine Freunde zu einer klasse Sylvesterparty eingeladen – und zwar was für eine!
I’ve composed the menu myself to be sure that the personnel don’t make any mistakes. There will be croissants, salmons, grapes, pumpkins, rosinenbrot, more salmons ….. but no veggies – oh my, what a buffet! Fräulein Flocke will bring us several boxes with pink champagne and Raspi will bring real Russian caviar and of course, vodka! This is what I call a Sylvester supper!
Ich habe das Menü selbst zusammengestellt, um sicherzustellen, dass mein Personal keine Fehler macht. Es wird Croissants, Lachse, Trauben, Kürbisse, Rosinenbrot, noch mehr Lachse …. aber kein Grünzeug geben – hmm, was für ein Büfett. Fräulein Flocke wird uns ein paar Kisten pink Champagner mitbringen und Raspi wird echten russischen Kaviar mitbringen und, natürlich, Wodka! Das verstehe ich unter einem echten Sylvester-Essen!
After the delicious dinner we’ll be dancing all night – Knutterbug, Raspstep, Flockeston, Berliner Waltz – you name it!
Nach dem köstlichen Mal werden wir die ganze Nacht durchtanzen – Knutterbug, Raspstep, Flockeston, Berliner Walzer – was immer ihr Euch vorstellen könnt!
Finally I want to wish the three old girls (although I hope they don’t read this, hihii), my dear keepers, all my faithful visitors and all the readers of Knuti’s Weekly a wonderful, happy new bear year!
Zu guter Letzt möchte ich den drei alten Mädchen (obwohl ich mir wünsche, dass sie das jetzt nicht lesen, hihihi), meinen lieben Pflegern, all meinen treuen Besuchern und den Lesern von Knuti’s Weekly ein wunderbares, glückliches neues Bären-Jahr wünschen!

Oh, “my” dear cute KNUT, let me hug you bien fort with one arm, as I need the other one for your secretary MERVI – nothing compares to her, don’t you think as well!? Great team the both of you! Umlot BARGIT does also a great job. Thank you so much for this entertaining speech full of wisdom. I also like so much MERVI’s collages – “QUE SERA, SERA! (awwwww!) . . . what ever will be, will be!, the future’s not ours to see, que sera, sera!, what will be, will be!” How right you are. It’s all good like this! Dear Knuti, my very best wishes for the New Year and I really appreciate your best intention “remaining the wonderful lovely bear you are”. Because this is a fact that can never be improved. Your menu card sounds great: yammy food and yammy food and so forth. Why do I become hungry again after having eaten so much these two last days???? Because of the yammy food!!!!
And of course, we all will meet again in Berlin, all two- and four-legged friends.
