Happy New Year – without veggies!

The year 2009 was a year of surprises, good news, bad news and sad news – just like every other year. I try to summon up what happened during the last 12 months but believe me – it’s not easy!
For me personally the greatest thing was that a certain Signorina moved from Munich to Bärlin. I must confess I wasn’t so delighted to share my enclosure, my toys and my food with her in the begiining but now things are quite different. Dear friends, I have a confession to make: I think I’m in love – oh dear, I’m afraid I’m blushing….

Gianna is a beauty – white, fluffy and roundish. Look at that lovely boomsie! Luckily I can’t remember who said she’s got a fat ass. What kind of language is that?? It really made me upset. I’m so glad Gianna didn’t hear it – otherwise it wouldn’t be safe for the ‘spokesman’, hihii….
I almost forgot – finally the zoos Berlin and Neumünster came to an agreement about my staying in Bärlin. So much fuss! Luckily it’s all over now and I’ll stay where my home is.
Even Yogi and my dear Grandma Lisa came to Bärlin. I was very sad when my grandma had to go to the polar bears’ heaven. I know she was very ill but I miss her so much.

One of the biggest surprises of the year was that Papa Lars was moved to Wuppertal. Everybody was very upset about it but calmed down after seeing the first photos of him playing happily with the widow Jerka. Mama Tosca and the aunties Nancy and Katjuscha aren’t as pleased….
![]()
Lars seems to be saying: Don’t you worry about me – I’m having the time of my life!
My dear friends in Nürnberg – Flocke and Raspi – will be moved to southern France in the beginning of 2010. Even if I don’t think the Marineland is the right place for polar bears I wish them best of luck and hope we will be properly informed of how they’re doing there.

Raspi has a big fan club and the fans were very worried when he became ill. Luckily it was just ‘a worm thing’ and he needed treatment which made him feel sick. He’s fully recoved now and very busy creating and inventing new things! He really is a bear of million talents!

Poor Raspi wasn’t feeling well and Flocke, of course, was very worried.

Another friend of mine – Wilbär from Stuttgart – was moved to Orsa Polar World in Sweden. It looks like he has won the highest prize in the polar bear lottery! Not only has he a lovely fiancée Ewa – he even lives in a wonderful, huge enclosure where there’s winter 9-10 months a year! Lucky Wilbär!

There has been love and romance in the air in many zoos last year and many cubs were born. Unfortunately only a few have survived but at least in Russia there are cubs in Moscow and St Petersburg. I wish them best of luck!

Corinna and Anton in Stuttgart are still deeply in love.

Many of you have lost your beloved pets. Mervi’s Miffe, Knuti-Judi’s Miss Lizzie, Marga’s Blackie and Charlie and many other pets crossed the rainbow bridge. I’m sure you will all find some comfort knowing that my Daddy is now taking care of them.
Finally I want to thank all the reporters and knutographers for their eminent contributions to Knuti’s Weekly Magazine. Without your generousity we wouldn’t be able to make it!
Anne, Birgit aus Rodriguez, Caren, Gudrun, Teddybärenmutti, Yeo, Doris and Jessie Webb, Monika, SylviaMicky, Hartmuth, Viktor, Ralph, Knuti-Judi, Dumba, Ludmila and Uwe, Gitta und Dusty, Ulli J, Patricia Roberts, Manu aus Berlin and many others – thank you so much for your awesome articles, reports, photos, videos and collages!
I also want to thank Hartmuth’s forum and Knutitis forum for wonderful co-operation.
As you may remember there have been some problems with the evil Server Family but thanks to our technical director Leaf we have always managed to solve the problems! Dear Leaf – thank you for putting up with the Swedish volcano!! Patience certainly isn’t Auntie Mervi’s middle name!
Our very special thanks to Orsa Polar World – Pernilla, Torbjörn, Anders and everybody working in that wonderful park. Your efforts to keep us informed about Ewa and Wilbär are highly appreciated.
Personally I hope I will maintain my healthy appetite even next year but please, keep in mind that vegetables are for sissies – not for growing bears!

Nice catch but wrong stuff! YIKES!!!!

A croissant is what I call decent food!

Luckily Gianna loves the green stuff.

KNUTI’S WEEKLY WISHES EVERYBODY A HAPPY NEW BEAR YEAR 2010!
Your humble servant, King Knut von Bärlin und Brandenburg
Here’s a little video from Mervi. She’s sorry she forgot to mention everybody contributing to Knuti’s Weekly but she’s an old lady whose memory serves her very badly these days (please, don’t tell her I told you this!)

Mervi , what a wonderfull surprise.
Like Ludmila said. The New Year speech is much more better than our presidents speech.
Thank you for Knutitours, and you know, even if there are problems with the server family, we allways find a way to enter the Knuipe and have a good drink and a nice chat.

Dear Mervi, Happy New Year to you!!
What an irony, my computer is broken at the moment waiting for surgery in a computer hospital, so my technical help is unavailable. But as soon as I get back online, I will be back.
What a surprise. Has anyone expected New Year greetings in person from the Editor in Chief? What would Knutisweekly Magazine be without its dedicated editor in chief? You are the soul and heart of this magazine, and we are all under its spell, thanks to you dear Mervi.
Happy New Year!
Hugs to all Leaf
Dear Mervi,
A wonderful 2009 review and a fantastic speech!! Thank you, Mervi for all that you do. None of the things you mentioned would be possible without all the hard work you do for the Knuipe and KWM. You are much appreciated!! Happy New Year to you, Vesa, Nalle and Mimmi.
Hugs from Sarsam

Mervi – Thank you for the wonderful stories, poignant moments and the opportunity to experience life among such beautiful human, feline, ursine and canine beings. This synopsis was excellent and many memories were evoked. We are all blessed to among the circle of friends you created and nurture with your dedication and heart-felt love.
Knuti- Honey, you made it all possible with your presence. You are truly a special bear…a divine gift to us all.
Thank You!!
Dear Knuti and your fantastic ghostwriter MERVI
) Big thankful hug to you both, Mervi and Knuti, and to all your kind and talented helpers! Once again: Happy New Year!
You did a great “job”. What a nice report at the end of the year, full of thoughtful aspects and lovely pictures – may I just add the memory of Bernie who had to cross the last bear’s bridge only lately.
What big surprise and joy was it, to see and hear dear Mervi in person with her warm appearance, always eager to not forget somebody, and with the special sound of her voice. How could Vesa hold the camera without starting to tremble!?
Mervi – at first: you looks cute with your polar bear cup.
And now standing ovations for the fantastic video.
Happy New Year and Thanks for all!
Alex and Pepper
Dear Mervi, and again you prepared us a great surprise !!! It is actually us who have to thank you for creating Knutitours and The Knuipe and for your endless efforts. I wish you a great 2010 with lots of reports, pics, videos and visits in Berlin.
Big hugs to you and Vesa and the two kleine sloebertjes.
Patricia
Dearest Mervi,
I’ve just watched, read, heart and admired your fantastic report and video.
If you didn’t already exist, dear Mervi, you had to be invented.
I want to thank you so much for all your kindness and your Knutitours.
I wish you a very happy New Year and many meetings in Berlin. Perhaps one day, we can meet in Wuppertal.
Let me embrace you and give you the biggest bear hug ever.
And a happy New Year to Vesa, Nalle and Mimmi.
Gitta
Dear Knut,
Making merry while it counts, that seems to be how life is now coming to me.
And a large part of making merry is staying tuned to all the wonderful polar bear and other stories each person is contributing. 2009 was a g-r-e-a-t year, however, being an optimist, I look forward to what 2010 holds.
Ahem, Mervi, Dear, (and Vesa), thank you very much for the year-end personal message. I hung on every word, even the ones I couldn’t understand.
May it all continue in good fun!
Love & Bear Hugs,
Tish
Dear Mervi, Dear Vesa!
We wish you all the best for this whole new decade and we do thank you for running KnutisWeekly, dear Mervi, and we guess it would not be possible without Vesa who has a lot of understanding that you spend hours and hours on the unique magazine which is such a delight for all readers.
Thank you very much for your lovely personal message. It is a great honour and fun for me to make my little contributions. Never ever we will forget this great weekend in Berlin where we could meet for the first time. Throughout the whole year we have never laughed as much as we did during these days. I will never forget our visit in Knuipe.
All our beloved bears and all the nice friends we met either personally or via mail or internet are a great enrichment of our life. We are very grateful to be part of this community.
Have a great 2010 with good health and a lot of fun!
Extra strong hugs to you and Vesa and to all Knutians, FloRa-friends and all who love our polar bears
