Merry Christmas, dear friends! Oh, how I enjoy this season! Even if I’ve been very busy with all planning, shopping and decorating I’m very happy. … and we will have a white Christmas, too! What more can a bear ask for?
Frohe Weihnachten, liebe Freunde! Ihr wisst genau, wie ich diese Zeit genieße. Obwohl ich mit der Vorbereitung, den Einkäufen und dem Schmücken sehr zu tun hatte, bin ich sehr glücklich…… und wir werden auch eine weiße Weihnacht haben. Was könnte ein Bär sich mehr wünschen?
I had a little argument with Katjuscha since she insisted we should have an antique Christmas tree but luckily I managed to make her change her mind. You must admit the greener version of the tree is much more suitable. Look how beautiful it is after I decorated it!
Ich hatte eine kleine Auseinandersetzung mit Katjuscha, weil sie darauf bestand, dass wir einen antiken Christbaum haben sollten, aber glücklicherweise gelang es mir, sie zum Umdenken zu bewegen. Ihr müsst doch zugeben, dass die grünere Version des Baumes viel passender ist. Seht selbst, wie schön der Baum ist, nachdem ich ihn geschmückt habe!°

Of course, I haven’t forgotten to write to Santa Claus. This time Uncle Manasse in Ranua helped me to write my list in Finnish. As you all know Santa lives in Finland and I might add Manasse, the Silver Fox, has a very good relationship with him. One must take an advantage of one’s connections don’t you agree?
Natürlich habe ich auch nicht vergessen, auch an den Weihnachtsmann zu schreiben. Diesmal half mir Onkel Manasse in Ranua dabei, die Wunschliste auf finnisch zu schreiben. Wie ihr alle wisst, wohnt Santa in Finnland und ich möchte noch erwähnen, dass Manasse, der Silberfuchs, sich sehr gut mit ihm versteht. Seine Beziehungen muss man schon zu seinem Vorteil nutzen, oder seht ihr das anders?

In our den we have a fire place and I hung 4 stockings over the mantel piece. Three smaller and one very big. The ladies immediately objected but I told them the objection was overruled!
- Knuti, why is your stocking much bigger than ours?
- You stupid women! Don’t you understand I wish a YOUNG polar bear lady as a Christmas gift and, of course, I need a big stocking! What shall I do with you …..
In unserer Höhle gibt es einen Kamin und dort hab ich 4 Strümpfe aufgehängt. Drei kleinere und einen sehr großen. Die Damen haben sofort dagegen protestiert, aber ich sagte ihnen nur, dass ihre Einwände überstimmt seien!
- Knuti, warum ist dein Strumpf viel größer als unsere?
- Ihr dummen Weiber! Versteht ihr denn nicht, dass ich mir eine JUNGE Eisbärdame zu Weihnachten wünsche und, natürlich, brauch ich deshalb einen großen Strumpf. Was soll ich bloß mit euch anfangen… .

Well, I knew how to make the gluttaneous trio happy so I asked my pal Gordon Ramsay – you know the famous English chef – to make a huge pudding with lots and lots of rum in it. That should do the trick and keep the snow queens merry, hihihii…..
Nun denn, ich wusste ja, wie ich das verfutterte Trio glücklich machen konnte, daher fragte ich meinen Kumpel Gordon Ramsay – ihr kennt doch den berühmten englischen Küchenchef – ob er einen riesigen Pudding mit ganz viel Rum drin zubereiten könnte. Das sollte ausreichen und die Schneeköniginnen bei Laune halten, hihihihi….
Hmm, the rum really did the trick because I’ve heard the trio giggling all day long and when I – accidentally – happened to eavesdrop, I mean to hear what they’ve been up to I really got some hick ups. Since there’s no roof where to hang mistletoes they’ve been hiding them in the snow and I can hardly take a step until they’re attacking me with kisses! YIKES and YIKES! Now I have to try to make a map of the locations of all the mistletoes …. or just lie on my rock…..
Hmmm, der Rum führte wirklich zum gewünschten Ergebnis, weil ich das Trio den ganzen Tag lang kichern hörte, und, als ich sie – in der Tat wirklich ganz zufällig – belauschte, glaubte ich zuhören, was sie im Schilde führen, und dann hab auch ich Schluckauf gekriegt.
Da wir kein Dach haben, an das ich die Mistelzweige hängen könnte, habe ich sie im Schnee versteckt und ich kann wirklich fast keinen Schritt mehr machen, ohne dass sie mich mit Küssen attackieren! Huch, ach du Schreck! Jetzt muss ich versuchen, mir eine regelrechte Landkarte zu azufertige, damit ich weiß, wo die ganzen Mistelzweige liegen … oder ich bleib einfach auf meinem Felsen liegen ……
OK, being kissed by the dear ladies isn’t such a bad thing after all. They are all nice girls even if they are OLD – but you didn’t hear this from me!!
OK, Küsse von den lieben Damen sind auch nicht schlecht. Sie sind alle ganz nette Mädchen, auch wenn sie ALT sind – aber ich hab euch das nicht gesagt!!

Between you and me – Santa must be getting senile or maybe he just couldn’t read my paw writing. I asked for a young polar bear lady and look what I got! The cats are very cute, of course, but I don’t think they want to live in our enclosure so I’ve already arranged new loving ‘parents’ in good homes for them. Maybe the polar bear girl comes later…..
Ganz unter uns – Santa muss auch schon langsam senil werden oder vielleicht konnte er meine bloß nicht meine Pfotenschrift lesen. Ich wünschte mir eine junge Eisbärdame und seht selbst, was ich bekommen habe! Die Katzen sind natürlich sehr süß, aber ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass sie in meinem Gehege wohnen wollen. Also habe ich bereits alles unternommen, um neue liebevolle ‚Eltern‘ in guten Häusern für sie zu finden. Vielleicht kommt das Eisbärmädchen ja später….
Finally I wish you all a Merry Christmas! Please, don’t fuss too much about it – the most important thing is that you’ll be spending time with your love ones and having a good time together!
