Behavioural Enrichment for All Animals in Berlin Zoo and Animal Park
HetMagazijn kindly requests your attention for the following petition, an initiative of a group of visitors of Zoo Berlin.

"Widely known polar bear Knut has been proving it: Animals in zoos need activity, stimulation and change.
For a long time now scientific research has pointed to the necessity of Behavioural Enrichment for animals living in zoological institutions. In many countries, and in Germany as well, this concept has been realized successfully and has become part of the daily routines in animal care.
But not so in Berlin! Neither the Berlin Zoo, known as the zoo with the greatest variety of species worldwide, nor the Berlin Animal Park (under the same management) provide any Behavioural Enrichment. On the contrary, it is even banned in both institutions. Many visitors have been contacting the director and asked for a change. In vain!
Within the EU larger enclosures are now obligatory. But larger enclosures alone are not sufficient unless they are also transformed into interesting and stimulating habitats for the animals.
