        . . . affects both African and Asian elephants.

 

        . . . is the cause of 25% of Asian Elephant deaths in North America since 1978.

 

        . . . affects wild elephants as well as elephants in human care.

 

        . . . kills quickly, usually within 24-72 hours.

 

        . . . targets the young, but can affect elephants at any age.

 

        . . . has several species, not all are fatal.

 

        . . . can attack a single elephant with more than one species of the disease.

 

        . . . diagnosis is done through whole blood testing.

 

        . . . is sporadic and is neither epidemic nor transmitted to humans.

    

        . . . is transmitted in saliva or other body fluids at a very young age.
