First meeting....
Not only Knut was curious...
Once discovered...
...she was to be inspected....
....and explored
...thoroughly...
Interesting thingie...
But also slippery....
Where the heck...
...is she...?
Diving for her....
In all directions....
She must be there...
Knut detecting her....
Knut coming...
Here she is...
Got you, little friend!
Self explaining...
Big knut and tiny turtle...
...let's have a little fun together!
And don't go away...
Knut has an idea...
The handling with care episode...
Go little darling, here is a fine place...
Day 3: 9am and Knut already busy playing with the turtle
Look!!!!!
Proud bear has something to share...!
Wonna see?
Better..?
Again?
Mine!
Turtle in escape mood again...
But not for long...Knut could have crunched her ...
.... but clearly did not want to....
She had to be placed, hadn't she?
Carrying on his paw....
Lying on the back must have been stressful for the turtle...
Playtime again...!
Playing with the turtle makes also tired...
Turtle exhausted...and trying to escape again...
Knut exhausted too and sleeping...
Cave door open and once Knut has gone from the scene...
The rescue operation could start.. Gerettet...
Rescued and .... ..."The turtle survived everything well, was allowed to recover a bit in the bear yard and was set free then in the marsh area. And - believe it or not - I think I saw her today! I stood on the wooden bridge at the Hippos and thought, hm, maybe she swims here but did not see anything. Then my mobile phone beeped and I put my backpack on the metal rail to take it out. Looked into the water and there swam a turtle (yellow-bellied slider is I think the correct English name for this kind)!! Of course it could have been a different one, sure - But I never saw a turtle there before! I wanted to take a photo but in the moment where I raised my arms she noticed me and woosh, dived away. So quick that I understood even more how difficult it must have been to catch her before yesterday! So, IF she was it (and I just want to believe she was it :>> ) then she is incredible fit, agile and chirpy - and has a wonderful new home!"
Christina M
