In 2050 most Polar Bears will have died out
American News Channel CBS reports: scientists maintain, that most of the Polar Bears will have died out till 2050. Till then more than two thirds of the population will disappear. That includes the entire Population of Alaska. These forecasts have been made last Friday by American scientists working for the Government.
The scientists worked out, that the Polar Bears are going to loose about 42 % of their environment till 2050. Polar Bears depend on iceshields, to hunt for seals and other animals. But because of the clima change the ice and especially the thickness of the iceshields is continually shrinking.

I saw the programme about the ice shield and it's effect on polar bears and eventually cities along coastlines. I try my very best to improve my carbon footprint. One of the biggest emission of greenhouse gases is air travel. I am guilty! I try in other ways to compensate. Will try to work out a way to share the video of the otters, it is a really lovely video.

May I pick your brains re how to share a video on this forum? It is a video sent to me attached to an email and I played it on Windows Media Player. It is on in a http format. Do not know too much about video files, in fact not at all. Any info "is good", like you used to say. Thanks.

Hi Joan,
Leafpure would be a better source for that type of information. you would have to up load it to a server and then embed the location in a link here or where ever.
On reducing the carbon foot print, it would be better if everyone became a vegaterian and everyone gave up beef. Cow produce more green house gas than cars...also if everyone who was a reproductive couple would have only one child, then in 3 generations we would be at 1.9 billion people on this planet than the 6.6 billion the planet is now supporting.
All things that I am not sure will ever happen, and that Ghia will take care of and sluff us off this beautiful blue ball.

As for vegetarianism, I am one.Many,many moons ago, I stopped eating meat for moral reasons such as intensive farming's cruelty. Thanks.

dass Du die Berichte für und ins Deutsche übersetzt ist unglaublich nett von Dir und mit viel Arbeit verbunden. Ganz herzlichen Dank auch an Dich. Leider ist mein Englisch so eingerostet, dass ich nur mit Wörterbuch in mühseliger Kleinarbeit eine Übersetzung hinbekomme.  Und leider habe ich dafür nicht die Zeit.

Eddie&Tiguak
Tiguak ist auch eine Handaufzucht und wurde im Alter von etwa einem Jahr mit dem fast gleichaltrigen Eddie zusammengebracht, der bei seiner Mutter aufgewachsen ist. So konnte Tiguak noch viel von Eddie lernen. Die zwei verstehen sich bestens.

Beide leben jetzt im Quebec Aquarium; ich hatte bei der Zoologischen Gesellschaft Quebec vor einigen Monaten angefragt, als ich von der Schließung des Zoos erfuhr:
Eddie and Tiguak live at the Quebec Aquarium and have been there since they left Brookfield. These two bears are the first inhabitants of this then "newly" constructed facility.

Ein gelungenes Beispiel für eine Handaufzucht. Hoffen wir mal, dass sich der Zoo möglichst bald um einen gleichaltrigen Artgenossen für Knut bemüht.

Yeah, seit ca. 12:00 h mittags ist Knut wieder auf seiner Anlage zu sehen.

Dabei hieß es bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt in der Presse heute (BZ Berlin):
Knut bis Mittwoch krankgeschrieben
Zoo Tierarzt Dr. Andreas Ochs wirkte gestern nachmittag schon etwas entspannter. Denn Eisbär Knut geht´s nach seiner Verletzung jetzt wieder relativ gut...
..."Heute geht es ihm schon besser. Er kann das rechte hintere Bein wieder leicht belasten", sagte Ochs gestern beim Knut Krankenbesuch der BZ im Zoo.
Der Tierarzt sorgt dafür, dass der bärige Patient weiter täglich sein Schmerzmittel schluckt - Tabletten und Granulat, die im Kraftbrei aufgelöst werden, den Knut noch immer futtert.
Allerdings ist unser Lieblings Eisbär noch bis frühestens Mittwoch krankgeschrieben. Oder etwas anders formuliert - Knut nimmt sich die Zeit und kuriert sich richtig aus.
"Er könnte schon ins Außengehege, wenn er wollte. Der Schieber ist offen. Aber er bleibt vorerst wohl lieber im Innenbereich der Eisbärenanlage" sagt ein Pfleger. Dort macht er ein paar Schritte, legt sich wieder hin - und zieht so sein eigenes Rehaprogramm durch. Schade für die Zoo-Besucher, die einen Auftritt ihres Lieblings herbeisehnen. Vernünftig für Knut, der seinem Instinkt folgt
